Moscow

Just arrived in Moscow early this morning. Brilliant sleeper train from Kiev where we met the most hospitable guy - he helped us get the right metro to our hostel. Lots more photos to come over the next few days.

We have seen Red Square - smaller than you would imagine but very impressive, containing Lenin's mausoleum. Lenin received a flying visit from us which was amazing. His waxy body is kept in a deep 'bunker' next to the Kremlin. Also saw St. Basils Cathedral which I always though was the Kremlin. It looks like it is decorated with candy. Yesterday evening we sampled the local vodka in the confines of the hostel in the company of a couple of Brits from Nottingham. So far so good in Moscow.

Friday - I've just added the photos, which are in chronological order going down the page, from yesterday afternoon. Yesterday we stumbled across a communist rally as part of May/Labour day celebrations. I got a bit excited about all red flags etc... The art work in one of the pictures further down is on the Metro. As we had heard before visiting, all the stations are officially works of art in their own right, and there are so many chandeleers! Towards the bottom is a photo of Moscow university - one of Stalin's Seven Sisters buildings which are visible across the Moscow skyline. And finally, at the bottom, we have been dabbling in alot of Borsht while in Russia, as it caters for the budget traveller - we now have a 'Borsht-O-Clock', which is whenever we feel like it. We're saving for the extortion we will experience in Yekaterinburg in a few days...

N.B. Still not been stopped by the Police. It is surprising because there are soo many about, but they stroll down the street like their off duty, and don't really seem to care. Its rather funny and I find it hard to take them seriously in their massive hats! But touch wood that I don't have to use a bribe.
