A bathing ape

Not actually an ape, but L. Macaca fuscata, to be precise. More commonly known as the Japanese Macaque, or Snow Monkey, these hairy critters earn their keep by bathing in the natural Onsen, in the Southern Japanese Alps near Nagano.

My personal favourite shot. If National Geographic don't use it I'm going to sue.

If you get the chance to see these beautiful beasts at Jigokudani, do not wind them up or stare, close up, in their eyes as they lash out - like any decent, highly-strug, human would. I found out the hard way, twice.
